We are witnessing a moment when new media tools are bridging the gap between previously insular communities and the outside world. How does this transformation affect the promotion of human rights -- and what can we do about it?

Last year, over the course of three Saturdays in April, Harvard students and journalists met with leading scholars and practitioners to discuss the problems of and potential for campaigning for human rights. This year we will broaden that community and advance the discussion to three instances of community exposure: youth activism, soldier media, and Beijing's 2008 Olympics.

Speakers will include: Samantha Power (KSG), Tony Saich (KSG), Sharon Hom (Human Rights in China), Deborah Scranton (director of THE WAR TAPES), BlackFive (milblogger), Ian Johnson (The Wall Street Journal), and representatives from Google, This American Life, OTPOR, The Center for American Progress, The China Internet Project, Reverend Billy, the Institute for Applied Autonomy, and Human Rights Watch.
